Building Business Leaders 🌟
- How student debates at Newton Business School cultivate future leaders?
- Why do we hold debates in Business English class for our BTEC HND students?
At Newton Business School (NBS), we are building future business leaders by strategically encouraging critical thinking in education through debates and guest lectures. For many of our students who will go on to study at university abroad – including in the UK at British universities such as University of Essex, Oxford Brookes University and Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge – having strong communication, adaptability and presentation skills will be essential.
The Cambridge English Dictionary defines the word “debate” as ‘a competition in which teams of people, often students, discuss a subject and the team that is judged to make the best arguments wins’.
What have Newton students been debating in Business English class?
Some of the varied and fascinating topics that have been debated by our laudable NBS students under the guidance of NBS Executive Mr Jason Beilby include the following interesting topics:
- Future of cryptocurrency
- The shift towards an aging population and the effects on society and business
- The challenges of the attention economy on productivity and worker output
- Diversity in the workplace
- Fast fashion – good or bad?

Congratulations to our top student debaters over the past month
A big shoutout to some of our top student debaters amongst our Newton Business School student cohort across Year 12 and Year 13: N’Tito, N’Jolie, N’Prim, N’Minya, N’Putter, N’Ongsa, N’Boston, N’Earth, N’Perth, N’Ben and N’Austin!
Confidence in public speaking is an essential skill for students as they prepare to go to university and also for their future careers, whether they go into working in an SME or an MNC, and we are proud of our NBS students’ achievements in this field towards their leadership development.
